Gabby Elliot
I met this young lady 3 years ago when helping run camp at the amazing, prestigious West Virginia State University (WVSU) led by the incomparable Kris Kern, 2022 Coach of the Year. Gabby reported being intrigued by my unique approach to training, fascinated with my style of teaching, loved my passion and said she wanted more. Gabby refused to let the fact that I live 275 miles away in Charlotte, NC stop her from training with me. She trains with me and/or plays 6 at times 7 days a week between Club, School or personal goals she set for herself. Her hard work, commitment and dedication to the game are literally second to none, and her stats/accolades show it. Gabby refuses to take "no" or "can't" for an answer and though just 5'7 has a near 10ft vertical. She is a true DS/Libero but because of her skills has been forced to play 6 rotations for her school, and was top 5 in every category except Setting. Gabby's accomplisments were too many to list but has been in the newspaper and on TV more than once, and is a local celebrity in her town. Gabby's love for the game can not be contained and she now coaches and teaches Volleyball to local girls in West Virginia, and the request for her specifically is impressive. Gabby is equally amazing in the classroom, has a number of schools interested in her and blessed to choose either an Athletic or Academic Scholarship wherever she decides to go. It is for this and so many more reasons that we graciously award Gabby as our 2022 Grayhounds Player of the Year!!!

In part what makes this young lady so special and amazing, is that she does not yet know or believe just how good she is. Her humility is her super power and has so much untapped potential that it's unbelievable. She comes from humble beginnings and a super Athletic family with a former New York Gloria Jackson Studio Dancer for a Mom, Dad who played Semi-Pro Volleyball, went to the Junior Olympics for Track, played Basketball in high school and sister Raven Gray Baksetball player, dancer and 4a Player of the Year 2020 and currently plays Volleyball at WSSU. Jordyn, now 6'1, started playing with a Volleyball at age 3 and began her journey as a Setter, where now as a 6 rotation Hitter, is comfortable playing every position. Jordyn's sister contributed to much of Jordyn's success, forcing her to play with her and older girls, thus increasing Jordyn's IQ and understanding of the game. Jordyn can not be directly contacted by coaches but received her first D1 interest from a coach to her Club, at age 12 and as of December 2022, has received 15 ACC, SEC, Big 10 and Big 12 interests and still counting. There is not enough time in the day nor words to express how proud I am of this young up and coming Athlete, and it is my absolute pleasure to award Jordyn Gray as the 2022 Grayhounds Athlete of the Year!
